Learn About Beagle Litter Box Training

People having problems housebreaking their beagle can get frustrated and desperate and they will wind up trying some very strange ideas that seem good at the time but have long term negative effects. Beagle litter box training is an example of an idea that seems like a good temporary solution but unless you are prepared to possibly make it a permanent solution then do not use it.

The toy breeds of beagle, usually cross breeds with smaller dog breeds, can probably get away with a litter box but you are going to need to be realistic before you employ the litter box solution. Your regular sized beagle is not a good candidate for a litter box. If you are having housebreaking issues with your regular sized beagle then try something else other than a litter box as your full sized beagle dog will choose what option makes them comfortable if you give them an option and you probably will not like their selection. If you are convinced that you want to try beagle litter box training then, as was mentioned before, only do it for the smaller breed of beagles that are either pocket beagles or cross breeds and be prepared to have it become your dog’s permanent option. If your toy breed of beagle is given the choice of a litter box or the cold outside it will take the litter box. But first you have to train the dog to use the litter box and this is done very similarity to training a cat but there are some internal mechanisms missing. Indoor cats are taught to use the litter box by their mothers and cats have a predisposition to using a litter box. Dogs do not have any of these advantages going for them so it is all on you to teach them how to use the litter box. There are two situations in which you will be using a litter box and each requires a different approach. If you are bringing home a beagle pup for the first time and you make the decision right up front to use beagle litter box training as the way your dog will be relieving itself then you will need to teach it as a pup. Get your beagle used to the box by putting it in the box and then using positive reinforcement like petting and positive talk. If you notice your puppy giving the signs that it is going to relieve itself then put the puppy in the box and if it uses the box then give it positive reinforcement again. If you do it with the right touch it should only take a week or so to train them. Some people use beagle litter box training as a last resort for a smaller breed of dog that will not be housebroken. This is not going to housebreak your beagle but it could end your problem of the dog going in the house. Put the litter box where the dog does the most damage and spend the next couple of days straight putting the dog in the box every hour and offering positive reinforcement. If all goes well you will have a dog that never leaves the house.
