America’s 11th most popular breed is none other than the recognizable and unique little dog, the Miniature Schnauzer. This dog is famous for its thick beard, mustache and eyebrows that give it its rugged yet elegant appearance. Little as it may seem, this breed is never fragile but instead tough, muscular and brave.

The Miniature Schnauzer is the small version of the standard Schnauzer and is the result of mix-breeding of the standard Schnauzer and Poodle or Affenpinscher. This dog originated from Germany during the late 19th century. Its first recorded existence was in 1888.This breed was developed for the intention of having a small Schnauzer that will hunt and catch rats and vermin that live inside the farmers’ barns. Also, it was used as a house guard and stock herder and watcher. Presently, the Miniature Schnauzer is widely known as a family pet rather than a working or farm dog.In the United States, the Mini Schnauzer was first introduced in 1924. Two years later, it was accepted as a new breed by the American Kennel Club. In the UK, it was first registered in 1948.The standard temperament for this breed is said to be alert, active and docile. It should also be sociable, intelligent and eager to please. Although brave and a natural watchdog, this breed should not be overaggressive yet never too shy. The Mini Schnauzer is an excellent watchdog because it does not warn physically but rather vocally in terms of barking profusely. It does not stop warning the household but once the stranger is greeted by the family as a friend, the Mini Schnauzer would stop being wary and becomes friendly with the new face, too. Moreover, the Mini Schnauzer is very easy to train and abides submissively therefore it is never a problem inside or outside the house. The Mini Schnauzer is very energetic and gets bored easily therefore it should be allowed lots of playtime in order for it to release its excess energy. When it gets bored, it will find other sources of fun which might cause problems. Around children, this breed understands that it has to be gentle and careful therefore, they play with them with fair amount of intensity.Outwardly, this breed possesses a double coat wherein, the outer coat is coarse and the inner is smooth. The usual colors of this breed are black and white, salt and pepper, black and silver, black, white and parti-colors. It also sheds very minimally and so it is safe for people with allergic reactions.
