The English Mastiff

The English mastiff is the most ‘original’ mastiff of the other variety of breeds. They can get up to about 30 inches off the ground to the shoulder. They take on the Pit Bull look with their legs apart at stance. They weigh at about 160-230 pounds. For the males and for the females about 140-190 pounds while they stand about 27 1/2 inches off the floor.

Brazilian Mastiff

The Brazilian Mastiff is a bloodhound/mix. A very interesting combination indeed; These are mastiffs who also have some of the traits of the bloodhound. This includes the legendary noses of that breed. They also possess the gentleness of the mastiff. Originating in Brazil, these dogs are also known as Fila Brasiliero in Portuguese. Once used as guards for Brazilian plantations, they were brought to what is now the U.S. by conquistadors. Continue reading
